Does severance delay my unemployment claim? - 12 months and counting

I was offered severance of 6 weeks after being let go as a nurse's aide and I am unsure how it affects benefits. I am in Buffalo, in case local advice matters. I also wonder about the job-search requirement.

Some states only count certain kinds of severance. A local workforce centre could tell me which.
