Applying for food benefits after losing my job - what worked for you?

I got a notice asking for proof of income and I am unsure what to send. I am in Portland, in case local advice matters. There are 8 people in my household.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
