Applying for food benefits after losing my job - any advice?

I got a notice asking for proof of income and I am unsure what to send. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. The caseworker asked for bank statements too. Is there an expedited option for people with very little income?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

I sent my last two pay stubs, the separation letter and a bank statement. I heard back in about 8 weeks, and my county offered an interview by phone.
