Applying for food benefits after losing my job - any advice?

I lost my job as an insurance claims processor and my household is applying for SNAP for the first time. I have a final pay stub, a termination letter and my unemployment approval. What did you submit and how long did approval take?

Take photos of everything you send and write down the date. I had to resend one page and the record helped.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 11 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
