Applying for food benefits after losing my job - 6 months and counting

I lost my job as a medical assistant and my household is applying for SNAP for the first time. Any experience at all would help. There are 6 people in my household. Is there an expedited option for people with very little income?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 6 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
